Moses Lake School Board Highlights Facilities Feedback, Financial Stability, and Policy Actions
MOSES LAKE, WA — July 22, 2025 — The Moses Lake School District Board of Directors met on Thursday, July 17 to review community feedback on facilities, adopt updates to district policy, approve key service contracts, and discuss budget planning for the year ahead.
Community Survey Helps Shape Facility Planning
Superintendent Carol Lewis reported that the district’s Facility Advisory Survey has received 372 responses since launching in late June. Available in English and Spanish, the survey remains open and is accessible on the district website. The survey will be featured in the district’s upcoming community newsletter and is a key part of long-term planning to ensure school facilities reflect the needs and values of Moses Lake families. While surveys don’t decide outcomes, it is important to note that they provide our community a voice and help shape a future for all here in Moses Lake.
District Finances: Conservative and Student-Focused
Business Manager Ruby Perez shared that the district ended the 2024–25 school year with enrollment 14 students above projections. A preliminary cash flow estimate for 2025–26 points to a stable financial outlook.
Policy Updates and New Agreements Approved
The board approved a revision to Policy 6112: Rental or Lease of District Real Property, bringing the policy in line with recommendations from the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA). The revision outlines updated procedures for leasing surplus property and allows lease revenue—beyond operating costs—to support capital improvements or one-time facility maintenance expenses.
Several contracts were also approved, including:
-
Absence management and employee assistance services through NCESD 171
-
Continued support for visually impaired students (.1 FTE)
-
No-cost facility use agreement for CDL testing for school bus drivers
-
Joint legal representation related to Model Policy 3211
Board Reaffirms Athletic Eligibility Standards
As a follow-up to its June 26 reaffirmation of district membership in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), the board also adopted Resolution 2025-10, affirming that athletic eligibility within the district will align with federal Title IX guidance—defining participation based on biological sex at birth. Furthermore, the Board affirmed that this will be reviewed annually by the Board, with input from students, parents, athletic staff and legal advisors.
Focus on Unity and Students
Throughout the meeting, Superintendent Lewis emphasized the district’s commitment to fostering a culture of shared support and championing Team Moses Lake.
