School Board

Moses Lake School Board

The Moses Lake School Board is legally responsible to the state for the governance of the school district. It establishes policies, hires staff, approves the budget, and oversees the development of curriculum and building construction programs.

Five elected citizens make up the Moses Lake School Board. These individuals represent five geographic areas of the school district and work very hard to guide the district on our mission of educating our students. The board members are elected to four-year terms, which are staggered to assure continuity. The president and vice president are elected annually by the board, and a legislative representative is elected every two years.

The Role of the School Board

The role of the school board is to govern the school district by setting policies and making decisions that shape the education of students. This includes adopting and revising budgets, hiring and evaluating the Superintendent, and ensuring that the needs of the community are being met. The school board also serves as a liaison between the community and the school district, keeping the public informed about the district's activities and progress. Ultimately, the school board is responsible for ensuring that students receive a high-quality education and preparing them for success in the future.

Some key responsibilities of the school board include:

  • Policy Development: Establishing and implementing policies that promote student success and well-being. Advocating for the needs of the district and its students with local, state, and federal policymakers
  • Budget Oversight: Ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively. Ensuring that the district meets legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Superintendent Supervision: Collaborating with and providing oversight for the Superintendent to ensure the district's strategic goals are met.
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Evaluating and approving curricula that meet the diverse needs of our students and prepare them for future success. Ensuring that all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.
  • Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation from parents, students, teachers, and community members to foster a collaborative educational community. Monitoring student achievement data and using that data to inform district decision-making.
