The Moses Lake School Board governs the school district and is accountable to the state. It consists of five elected citizens, each representing a different geographic area. The board sets policies, hires staff, approves budgets and oversees curriculum development and building projects. Board members serve staggered four-year terms for continuity, with a president and vice president elected annually and a legislative representative elected every two years. These elected individuals work very hard to guide the district on our mission of educating our students.
The board makes key decisions that shape student education, including budget approvals and revisions, Superintendent hiring and evaluations, and ensuring the community's needs are met. The school board serves as a liaison between the community and the school district, informing the public of the district's activities and progress.
Ultimately, the school board ensures students receive a high-quality education and are prepared for success.
Key School Board responsibilities include:
- Policy Development: Establishing and implementing policies that promote student success and well-being. Advocating for the district's and its students' needs with local, state, and federal policymakers.
- Budget Oversight: Ensures that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively and that the district meets legal and regulatory requirements.
- Superintendent Supervision: Collaborating with and providing oversight for the Superintendent to ensure the district's strategic goals are met.
- Curriculum and Instruction: Evaluating and approving curricula that meet the diverse needs of our students and prepare them for future success. Ensuring all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.
- Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation from parents, students, teachers, and community members to foster a collaborative educational community monitoring student achievement data and using that data to inform district decision-making.
