Moses Lake School District Board Meeting Highlights – March 20, 2025
The Moses Lake School District Board of Directors met on March 20, 2025, to discuss key district matters, celebrate community contributions, and address public concerns. Below are the highlights from the meeting:
- Recognitions: The week of March 10-14 was Educaiton Support Professionals Week. Throughout the week, our buildings and departments took time to recognize the efforts of all our classified staff that impact our district year-round. From the moment students arrive at school to the time they head home, our classified staff are there—driving buses, preparing meals, maintaining safe and welcoming environments, supporting classrooms, providing healthcare, handling the warehouse, assisting in offices, and so much more. Their dedication ensures that learning can happen, and their care creates the sense of belonging that makes Moses Lake School District a community. The board and district leadership acknowledged the efforts of these incredible professionals. Several representatives from throughout the district were on hand for the special moment.
- Consent Agenda:
- Approval of personnel changes, accounts payable, and contracts.
- Discussion on student travel logistics,
- Public Comments:
- Community members raised concerns about the board’s handling of Title IX and transgender issues
- Comment was given about the kindergarten extended year
- Policy Updates:
- Second reading of changes to Policy 1220 (Board Officers and Duties of Board Members)
- Board discusion around Policy 3210 (Nondiscrimination), 3211 (Gender-inclusive schools) and 3205 (sexual harrassment of students). During the process, the board voted 4-1 to suspend policy 3211.
- Resolution Presented:
- Resolution #2025-02 – Distribution of petty cash, imprest and change funds within the general fund and associated student body fund
- Resolution #2025-04 – Emergency closure of Groff Elementary
- Resolution #2025-05 – Bank signatory
- Superintendent’s Report: Superintendent Lewis spoke briefly about how well the transition is going for Groff students, in light of the school’s closure for the remainder of the school year. She also noted that water issues at North Elementary have been rectified. The superintendent also offered up a brief overview of the focus on the district’s leadership structure for next year and mentioned that more information would be available soon.
