Long Range Facility Planning Committee
Long Range Facility Planning Team
The Moses Lake School District’s Long-Range Facility Planning Team is taking a comprehensive look at how our schools and facilities can best serve students and our community for years to come.
Long-range facility planning is about more than buildings. It means looking carefully at enrollment, building capacity, the age and condition of our facilities, educational programming and the responsible use of community resources. The team’s work is focused on developing a thoughtful, sustainable approach that addresses both current needs and future challenges.
The team is guided by a commitment to be both fiscally and morally responsible in its recommendations. Its work centers on four key priorities:
- Elementary Schools: Move toward larger elementary schools that can use staffing, programs, facilities and resources more efficiently while continuing to meet the needs of students.
- Middle Schools: Create a structure that provides all middle school students with equitable access to programs, courses and opportunities, regardless of which school they attend.
- Building Utilization: Make responsible use of district facilities by working toward schools operating closer to their intended capacity.
- Long-Term Facility Needs: Proactively identify and address the needs of aging buildings before significant failures or emergencies occur.
This work is not about addressing one building or solving one immediate facility issue. It is about developing a long-range strategy for the district as a whole that considers how our facilities work together as a system and how the decisions we make today will affect students, staff and the community well into the future.
