Board Meeting Highlights | January 22, 2026
At its January meeting, the Moses Lake School District Board of Directors took the following actions and received several important updates:
• School Board Recognition Month: Superintendent Lewis recognized the Board of Directors in honor of School Board Recognition Month, thanking members for their leadership and service to students, staff, and the community.
• Board Action: The Board approved Resolution 2026-05, expressing support for WIAA Amendment No. 21 and two state initiatives currently under consideration
• Policies:
– Policy 5010 (Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action)
– Policy 5011 (Sexual Harassment of District Staff Prohibited)
Both policies received a first reading and will return for a second reading at the February 5, 2026 Board meeting.
• Strategic Pillar Reports: The Board heard updates from district leaders representing the four Strategic Pillars:
– Teaching & Learning
– Employee Services
– Safety & Well-Being
– Collaborating Together
• Safety & Well-Being Update: The Safety & Well-Being team provided the Board with a preview of the District’s legally required CCDEI professional development.
• Legislative Update: Board Member and Legislative Representative Michael Nordsten reported that approximately 100 bills are currently moving through the legislative session, with about 20 containing unfunded mandates. The District will continue to monitor legislation that may impact our schools and community.
• Student Voice: Student Board Representatives shared highlights from around the district, including:
– A successful Exhibition Night at Vanguard Academy
– Wrestling teams preparing for district competition
