Joint Review Confirms No Misuse of Moses Lake FFA Student Funds

Moses Lake, WA - Moses Lake School District has taken prompt action in response to recent public and online statements alleging that the District ‘took’ approximately $55,000 of FFA student fundraising revenue. The District recognizes that these claims generated significant attention at a recent board meeting, on social media, and in local media, and is committed to addressing community concerns thoroughly and transparently.
The District conducted a comprehensive review of FFA revenues and expenditures from 2015 to 2025. During this review, District staff met with FFA leadership, who identified a small number of entries were coded to the woodshop program instead of FFA, both vocational programs. The current balance for the FFA program is approximately $30,000. Following this joint review, both the District and FFA leadership confirmed that the allegations against the District were false. No FFA student funds were taken, transferred, or withheld by the District. Additionally, the State Auditor's office reviewed and verified the District's financial review of the Moses Lake FFA program.
The original post on the Moses Lake FFA Facebook page has since been removed, and the individual who posted the allegations has posted a formal retraction.
The District recognizes the concern this situation has caused and understands the impact it may have had on community trust. Over the past year, the District has made significant progress in improving transparency and rebuilding confidence following the 2024 financial crisis. All financial records reviewed as part of the FFA audit are now posted publicly on the District website, and linked below, for anyone wishing to review them. The District is hopeful that sharing this information will help the community and the District move forward together.
This review also underscored the importance of accurate internal accounting practices and consistent communication within the FFA program. Strengthening these systems will help ensure that student-generated funds are reliably tracked and reported, reducing the likelihood of misunderstandings in the future.
