Board Meeting Highlights – November 21, 2025
Here’s what happened at last night’s regular meeting of the Moses Lake School Board:
✔ Recognition of Outgoing Board Member Ryan Coulston
The Board recognized Ryan Coulston for his service. Coulston was appointed in 2024 to complete the term of former board member Kevin Fuhr. He chose not to run in the most recent election so he can focus more on family and personal priorities. We appreciate is dedication and commitment to Moses Lake students.
✔ Approval of Consent Agenda
The Board approved the consent agenda, which included:
- Personnel report
- Accounts payable and payroll
- Latest surplus status report
- Contracts presented for approval
There were no public comments during this meeting.
✔ Policy Updates Approved
Under New Business, the Board discussed and approved updates to three policies:
- Policy 1111 – Updated state-required language for the Oath of Office for Board Members
- Policy 5005 – Employment disclosures, certification requirements, assurances, and related approvals
- Policy 6022 – Minimum fund balance expectations
✔ Resolution 2026-03 Approved
The Board approved Resolution 2026-03, which outlines the emergency actions the District is resolved to take if a work stoppage begins

Attendance & Truancy Report
Adam Sawyer, Assistant Executive Director of Safety & Well-Being, presented an update on MLSD’s attendance, truancy, and BECCA processes. His report included clarification of state requirements, MLSD protocol timelines, and steps taken after specific numbers of unexcused absences.
Moses Lake Community Coalition Presentation
Megan Watson shared information on the Guiding Good Choices program—an evidence-based 5-week series supporting family communication, connection, and healthy decision-making for 4th–8th grade students. Her presentation highlighted the program’s upcoming cohorts and the role MLSD can play in helping connect families to these opportunities.
Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Lewis provided a brief report centered on the District’s key commitments, including financial responsibility, fair labor negotiations, supporting all district employees, honoring levy promises, and delivering clear, accurate communication to the community.
✔ Student Representative Updates
Student board representatives shared highlights from Vanguard Academy, Digital Learning Center, and CBTech, celebrating the many exciting activities, programs, and student accomplishments happening across their campuses.
