For your children, moving from harvest to harvest means changing schools and teachers, missing days at school, and feeling like they don’t belong. These changes can put your children at greater risk of doing poorly in school. Special services and help are available to migratory children to help overcome these problems to ensure a fair chance at education.
What is the Migrant Education Program?
The Migrant Education Program (MEP) provides extra support to migratory children for their education as required by federal law. The goal is to help migratory students succeed in school, to graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a High School Equivalency Diploma), and to develop skills so that they can find good jobs. It also helps schools respond to the influx of these mobile students.
We know that it is very important for parents to be involved in their children’s education. Parents are their child’s first teachers. The MEP is ready to support you in helping your child learn and grow. Your involvement will show your children how important learning is for life.

ABOUT THE MIGRANT EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Migrant Education Program (MEP) is authorized under Title I, Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, reauthorized in 2015 as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The purpose of the MEP is to meet the unique educational needs of migratory children and their families to ensure that migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate high school.
Specifically, the goal of the Migrant Education program is to help migratory children overcome educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, health-related problems, and other factors inhibiting migratory children from doing well in school and making the transition to postsecondary education or employment. The Moses Lake School District Migrant Education program is proud to offer additional academic support and other events for migratory children and social support to their parents.
