Dear Parents/Guardians of Fifth Grade Students: 

Instruction on the topic of AIDS/HIV/Puberty with 5th-grade students in Moses Lake Schools is planned to begin no sooner than November 2024. Your child's school will provide further details regarding the dates for this instruction. Washington State law mandates that students from the 5th to the 12th grade receive AIDS/HIV/Puberty education.  

Puberty/HIV/AIDS education includes the video links below and is hosted by your MLSD school nurses. Three videos discuss puberty: a girls-only video, a boys-only video, and a co-ed video. In school, we show the boys' or girls' videos as well as the HIV/AIDS video.

Parents/guardians can opt their student out of HIV/AIDS/Puberty instruction by filling out an “Opt-Out” form before instruction begins. “Opt-Out” forms are available on this webpage or at your student’s school and may be turned in at the school office. If you choose to opt your student out of this education, please complete the form immediately to ensure that when instruction does begin at your child’s school, his/her name will be included on the “Opt-Out” list.
